The Company
Fire & Stone is a contracting company that designs and installs outdoor fireplaces. We supply and install Eldorado stone veneers to new and existing homes, and commercial buildings. The company operates throughout the south island of New Zealand owning several key franchises that represent 90% of the south islands stone veneer industry and have several mobile two man teams- qualified and accredited applicators of stone veneers.
History
24 years ago Rod Thomson, like many New Zealanders, ventured off on his OE. He got as far as England and what he saw in terms of old buildings and ancient architecture changed everything. Intricate stonework and almost forgotten craftsmanship inspired him to learn more about who was restoring these treasures.
For the next 17 years he lived in Scotland where he accumulated a wealth of hands-on experience in stone masonry. When based in Carnoustie, he worked on historic buildings and famous castles throughout the country, from the "Black Isle" North of Inverness, to the picturesque fishing village of “Crail in Fifeshire". Since 2002 he has been back in New Zealand and has created and operates Fire & Stone, turning his stone mastery to building exquisite outdoor fireplaces, courtyard ovens and outdoor kitchens throughout the South Island. Rod’s passion for excellence in his trade is immediately seen in the quality of his work and the desire to create an exceptional experience for his clients.
Today
With a solid business ethic, clear goals, a sound business strategy and a great team Fire & Stone have quickly become the leaders in stone veneer. They are instrumental in developing the industry nationwide. They have earned the exclusive rights to distribute and install Eldorado stone veneer products giving their clients a choice between real stonework and manmade stone veneers.
Fire and Stone are aligned with ECAN and well informed with all current rules and regulations regarding indoor and outdoor fireplaces in New Zealand and are presently involved with establishing a nationwide association to represent the Stone Veneers Industry.
Rod lives in Christchurch with his wife and their 3 teenagers, is an avid sports fan and loves the outdoors. Says Rod, “There’s nothing finer than sitting around an outdoor fireplace in your own courtyard with the family and a group of friends.”
